Root Canal Treatment

While a tooth may look like a static object, it is a living organ that houses an intricate network of nerves and blood vessels at its core, known as the dental pulp. These dental pulps are what give your tooth sensation and keep it alive.

The internal chamber and channel structures that house the dental pulp are referred to as root canals and when dental decay reaches deep into the tooth, your dental pulp may become inflamed and devitalised, causing severe toothache.

Other causes of nerve devitalisation include deep old fillings, deep cracks on your teeth or heavy trauma to your tooth that severs the delicate internal vessels. In all these situations, it may be advisable to perform a root canal treatment in order to save the dying tooth.

Root canal treatment involves meticulous removal of the inflamed and dead tissue within the root canals, disinfecting and sealing it off with root canal materials to curb re-entry of bacteria.

The end result is a reduction in bacterial load which in turns facilitate healing and resolve dental pain.
