Scaling is a process where we use specialised instruments to gently remove plaque and tartar deposit on teeth surfaces. The ultrasonic scaler uses vibration to loosen hardened tartar that builds up on your teeth.
Polishing is then carried out with a soft rubber cup filled with prophylaxis paste to remove the remaining stains and make your teeth feel smooth and shiny.
If your teeth are heavily stained with food or tobacco, we may need to resort to Prophy-Jet polishing instruments, which use strong pressurised spray of water, air and sodium bicarbonate powder for effective removal of stains. Sodium bicarbonate powder may leave a salty taste in your mouth.
